Environmental Quilt

Kids as Artist- What Clean Water Means to Them

The environmental quilt program is a way for the watershed district to connect with the students in our watershed. The program allows visitation time with students while discussing ways they and their families affect water quality and quantity, what clean water means for all species, and what the use is for wetlands, rivers and lakes.

After receiving teacher and student feedback, the SRWD feels we are reaching our goals and maintaining a great relationship with the youth of our watershed.

After SRWD visited with Sacred Heart School in Freeport’s 4th and 5th grade students kids were asked to draw ‘what clean water means to them’. Thirty quilt blocks later and the time and sewing talent of watershed district staff, a beautiful quilt was created.
